ADEKA, the Furukawa Group's chemical company, has earned a reputation in Japan and worldwide as an innovator in a broad spectrum of technologies. Founded in 1917 with the purpose of initiating domestic manufacture of electrolytically produced caustic soda, the Company later began producing hydrogenated oils using hydrogen produced from electrolysis. From these two operational strengths ADEKA has expanded its business in chemicals and food products. In the Chemical Products area, the Inorganic, Organic, and Industrial Fats and Fatty Acids Divisions produce a wide range of products that contribute to such industries as textiles, pulp, civil engineering and construction, shipbuilding, automobiles, and appliances. The Food Products Division processes animal and vegetable oils and fats, supplying margarine, shortening, and processed oils and fats to bakeries, confectioneries, and restaurants. To expand its international operations, the Company has established a new subsidiary Adeka USA Corporation, Adeka Fine Chemical (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Adeka Foods(Changshu) Co., Ltd. and Adeka Fine Chemical Taiwan Corporation in 2004. For the purpose of increasing the efficiency and strengthening the unity of ADEKA Group, the restructuring of the whole group is now under way. Commenced operations. 1962 Established Adeka Argus Industry Co., Ltd, to manufacture PVC plasticizer and stabilizer 1966 Akashi Factory in Hyogo completed. 1970 Completed Kashima Factory, Ibaraki. 1975 Completed AS Kasei Co., Ltd. Sodegaura Factory, Chiba. (Now,known as Chiba Factory) 1979 Kuki Factory completed. (closed in 1996) 1988 Established Asahi Denka (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. in Singapore to produce edible oils and fats. (in 2006changed company name to Adeka (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.) 1989 Established Chang Chiang Chemical Co.,Ltd. in Taiwan to manufacture additives for plastics. 1990 Merged with Adeka Argus Chemical Co., Ltd. 1991 Established Han-Nong Adeka Co.,Ltd. in Korea to produce plastic additives.(in 1997 ,renamed Dongbu adeka Co.,Ltd.) 1992 Established Palm-Oleo SDN. BHD. in Malaysia to produce fatty acids and Glycerine. 1994 Established Amfine Chemicals Corporation in the United States to produce plastics additives. 1995 Completed Soma factory in Fukushima. 1996 Formed Asahi General Construction Co.,Ltd. for the purpose of general construction including civil engineering and construction, installation of plant and machinery, and electrical and piping works. 1996 Mie Plant received ISO 14001 certificate which was the first in the Japanese chemical industry. 1998 All the chemical plants received ISO 9002 certificates. 1998 Kashima Plant received ISO 14001 certificate. 1998 Established Europe Office in Germany (in 1999, converted into the local establishment) 1999 Completed the new building of Tokyo R&D Laboratory. 1999 Established Asahi Denka Europe GmbH in Germany.(in 2006 changed company name to Adeka Europe GmbH) 1999 Merged Tokai Denka Kogyo K.K. 2000 Established Asahi Denka Korea Corporation in South Korea.(in 2006 changed company name to Adeka Korea Corporation) 2000 Established Adeka Logistics Co.,Ltd.as the original contractor on Logistics of ADEKA Group. 2000 Established Asahi Food Sales Co.,Ltd.for the purpose of the sales of processed edible oils and fats, or various food materials for bakery, confectionery and other food industries.(in 2006 changed company name to Adeka Food Sales Corporation) 2000 Merged Asahi General Construction Co.,Ltd. with Adeka Engineering CO.,Ltd. into Adeka Engineering & Construction Co.,Ltd.(in 2006 changed company name to Adeka Engineering & Construction Corporation) 2000 Merged Yoko Sangyo Co.,Ltd with Adeka Fine Chemical Co.,Ltd. 2000 Asahi Denka Europe GmbH, a German subsidiary , established a joint venture company "Adeka Palmarole SAS" in France with a Swiss company, Palmarole AG. 2001 All Plants received ISO 14001 certificates. 2001 Acquired Yongo Co., Ltd. from Japan Tobacco Inc. and reorganized it as a subsidiary. 2001 Established Asahi Denka Shanghai Co.,Ltd. in China.(in 2006 changed company name to Adeka (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.) 2002 Established Kukdo Chemical (Kunshan) Co., Ltd. in China jointly with a Korean company Kukdo Chemical Co., Ltd. 2002 Established Asahi Fine Chemical (Shanghai) Co.,Ltd. in China.(in 2006 changed company name to Adeka Fine Chemical (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.) 2003 The subsidiary Dongbu Adeka Corporation changed its trade name to Adeka Fine Chemical Korea Corp. 2003 Established Adeka Fine Chemical (Changshu) Co., Ltd. in China. 2003 Established Asahi Denka (Asia) PTE LTD. in Singapore.(in 2006 changed company name to Adeka (ASIA) Pte. Ltd.) 2004 Established Chang Chiang Chemical (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. in China. 2004 Established Asahi Denka U.S.A.(in 2006 changed company name to Adeka USA Corporation) 2004 Established Adeka Fine Chemical (Thailand) Co., Ltd. In Thailand. 2004 Established Asahi Foods (Changshu) Co., Ltd. in China.(in 2006 changed company name to Adeka Foods(Changshu) Co., Ltd.) 2004 Established Adeka Fine Chemical Taiwan Corporation in Taiwan. 2006 Changed company name from Asahi Denka Co., Ltd. toAdeka Corporation.
